The main idea behind our proposed approach aims to integrate various stages such as design, simulation and physical implementations in development of mechatronics product or system. In this paper a mechatronics design education-oriented V-model was proposed to fulfill these requirements. The success of a mechatronics engineering program is directly related to the structural design methodology, modeling and simulation, and the practical implementation of fully integrated physical systems. Mechatronics engineering graduates are expected to design mechatronics products with higher performance and lower costs. ![]() The challenges in developing such program in terms of curriculum planning, laboratory facility needs and staff requirements are discussed in this paper. A good knowledge in those subjects, is however required if our graduate engineers are to be relevant to industry with time. The justification for the Mechatronics engineering program becomes evident, as today's engineers must be acquainted with subjects that are not taught or given much emphasis in the traditional engineering curriculum. The program is designed as Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering. The primary objective of the interdisciplinary Mechatronics degree is to meet industry requirements for graduates with the knowledge of integration of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer control systems. ![]() This paper presents the global status of undergraduate program in Mechatronics Engineering and the critical needs for this degree offering in Saudi Arabia. College of Engineering, Taif University (TU) has proposed a new degree program in Mechatronics Engineering.
